Not only can we save the Gaviota Coast, it is our duty to save it!

Why not check out the challenges we face in our effort to preserve a little bit of California's vanishing heritage? While your at it, let us know what your thoughts on the matter are!
The National Park Service has begun a two-year study to determine the feasibility of adding the Gaviota Coast to the National Park System as a National Seashore. In November 1999, Congress passed the National Park Service budget for fiscal year 2000, which included authorization for this study. According to officals, the National Park Service would actively support the continuation of compatible traditional land uses, such as ranching and farming, throughout the area. NPS will not buy or take land from anyone who does not want to sell. Finally, the National Park Service will only enter private land with the landowner or managerís permission.  Santa Barbara County's Gaviota Coast represents the last significant stretch of relatively undeveloped coastal land of this magnitude remaining in Southern California.Working together, we can save Santa Barbara County's unspoiled coast line!  You too can help save our disappearing coastline. California's future is in our hands. Get involved, become concerned, get educated. The future, your childrens future depends on it!
